Damaged Sets

Folks,

I have one, and possibly two sets that contain damaged volumes.

The first set has undamaged volumes 1 to 4. Volume 5 has very light water damage to the first few pages. No discoloration, but you can tell. Volume 6 has an almost invisible discoloration on the front cover, about an inch and a half wide, about 3/4 of an inch high. I will sell this set for $1500 including domestic US shipping. Overseas, I’ll have to get a price. The sets are shipped in three USPS “large” flat rate boxes in either case.

The second set has a variety of faults, but is certainly readable. I’ll get details if anyone is interested. The price is $1200.

Final Prices and Shipping Data On the CVIE

At long last, prices are finalized. Prices, including shipping for the 6 volume CVIE are $1495 US Domestic, $1535 Canada and Mexico, and $1595 rest of world. These prices are good against one postal rate change (about one every 6 months) and as long as the Euro remains under $1.50. If I can arrange to ship from the EU to the EU, the cost to a buyer in the EU will be decreased somewhat.

Shipping dates are being finalized. Expect delivery before the end of the year.

For slipcases, $75 is the cost of the slipcase, but I am still getting the shipping prices, and may be able to ship from the EU to the EU.

You may now send $900 first payment on a CVIE set. You will receive four of the volumes. If satisfied, you may send your balance and receive the final two books.

If you are buying a slipcase, wait a few days and I’ll have shipping prices for you so that you can make one payment.

Jack Vance in E-Book

I mentioned this once before, but there’s a site which has increasing numbers of Jack’s works, all converted from the original VIE texts, with the (very) few VIE errata corrected. You can down load The Chasch for free, and most other titles seem to be $6. There’s no DRM.

I am getting these myself, because my 6-volume set is a bit bulky in my luggage! And I don’t take my leather-bound original VIE set anywhere…

Just letting you know.

Should have final prices on everything in a week or so… stand by, when it happens, it will be fast.

Status and Update: CVIE & Slipcases

Sorry to have disappeared on you. I am now working two jobs for a bit, and Afton House Books is job 3. However, I expect final cost on both books and slipcovers any day now, and when I have them, I’ll report final prices to you. At that time, a further deposit on the CVIE will be requested, and the full price of the slipcases. I will also have firm shipping dates, so that at that point, it will all run automatically.

Clarifications

About your deposits: I always acknowledge any e-mail or PayPal notice that money is here, or coming. When the money actually hits, I create an account for you, if you don’t already have one. I will also tell you that. If you try to contact me, and I do not respond in 48 hours, try again.

Next week, I will be out of pocket from Wednesday, 12/8 COB until Monday morning, 12/13. I may not have e-mail during that period. Just be aware that you will not receive any confirmations or acknowledgements in that time period.

Just a few notes…

I have begun to see responses… I will acknowledge all of them individually over the next few days.

Yes, PayPal is fine for a deposit. But be aware that if I pay the transaction fee, and you elect not to buy a set, then I’ll be returning your deposit less 3% domestically, 4% for foreign deposits.

Good News for You, Sorta Good for Me…

Before you send me a deposit on books, I want you to be aware that there will be an e-book version of the VIE, sometime soon. I’m not the publisher; I will post some more info on it here when I get it. But if you’d prefer an e-book to print (hard as that is to believe 😉 you won’t have long to wait. I don’t know the cost, I can’t tell you anything else. Try the Vance website…

Life Edition

For years, we have been discussing a premier, folio version of Jack’s Work. The Life Edition will be bound between a carved wooden front cover, and a wooden back cover. It will be completely reset, printed on 100 pound paper, and lovingly bound. Size will be on the order of 24″ high by 18″ wide, if not larger. Original copper-plate engravings will be tipped-in to the volume.  The price will reflect the uncompromised production of this one-of-a-kind book. Few will be produced.

Soon, I will publish complete specifications, cost, and schedule for delivery. A substantial deposit of $2500 will be required to reserve one of the editions. Purchase price is estimated to be in the neighborhood of $10,000.

Delivery of the volume will be arranged on the basis of location, by premium delivery services. The book will arrive packed box-in-box.

No detail of this book will be overlooked.

Unusual Offer

I’ve been asked to offer a complete set of the Readers’ Edition. This is a 44-volume set; you can probably see details on it at http://www.vanceintegral.com. The set has been read perhaps once; the books are in condition “fine” except that one or two may have a slight smudge. They have been sitting in storage for a few years, in the original packing. The asking price is $4500, plus shipping. The books are in two boxes of about 32 pounds, 15 Kg, each. The are packed “box in box” with styrofoam separators. Shipping will be hefty outside the US.

If you have questions, let me know.

Alive and Well…

There is only one person left who has not picked up his volumes 5/6. Effectively, the first impression of the first printing is completely gone.

For those of you who wish slipcovers: I have one now, and I am pretty sure they can be shipped in the US when I receive them in bulk; I will be notifying you soon. For the EU, they will ship from Milan. For the rest of the world, however, I am worried about the shipping, and may make a test case or two. Standby.

For the second impression of the first printing, I will place a notification here shortly with prices, shipping costs, and so on. As usual, there will be a deposit, but there’s a good chance that all six books will ship at once.

Any questions, just send e-mail or ask here.
