Shipping and a Neat Interview

The first copies of volume 5&6 have arrived in the States. One of my subscribers paid to have them sent air express (at a hefty charge) and has them now. He seems very pleased. (No–don’t ask. No more can be shipped from Milan, it was done as a favor. My printer is a printer, not a fulfillment center.)

There’s a neat interview with Jack and Fred Poul available as a download:

The interview is priceless, and recent too. Jack (94) and Fred (91) exhibit fully active minds, even though both are blind. It’s a lesson in attitude for me, as I’m only 67.

The famous argument about the epigraphs in the Demon Princes is reiterated, with each taking the same position as when Pohl edited out some of the inimitable Vance epigraphs from, I think, Palace of Love. Jack again tells him “no, you’re wrong, Fred.” (Wrong that they interrupt or disturb the narrative flow.)

But of course Jack was always 10 times the writer Pohl was.

Fred Pohl isn’t blind, just crippled. He was saying how he wondered how Jack could deal with it.
